The Bible Told Me So

I have an opinion and it’s for a religious—or at least, spiritual—reason, rather than a “women’s liberation” reason.

While I understand that argument, it is not the opposite and equal to the “anti-abortion”

The opposite of love isn’t hate, it’s indifference.”

The opposite of the Christian Right’s “pro-life” stance isn’t women’s liberation or women’s rights.

I am generally skeptical of a Christian Right view aligned with the power of the state, whether it’s Pharoah, Nebuchadnezzar, or Herod.

My stance is not necessarily with gendered at all.

My rationale is I simply do not believe in a vengeful or powerless Ineffable.

Or The One that doesn’t already know what the Universe does.

He’s omniscient after all.

The Right quotes Scripture (Jeremiah 1:5) where God spoke saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.

I don’t believe abortion ends that connection or that distinction.

He still knows that soul.

He obviously knew it before the fetus formed in the womb.

It says so in the Bible!

We’re a speck of dust on God’s windshield as He drives across the Universe.

He does care for us.

And that love doesn’t stop after we “die.”

Whether by natural or unnatural death.

Whether we are 3 weeks old or 3000 weeks old

Of course, as a man, I would never experience nor can I fathom that feeling of life before, during, nor after an abortion.

I could not, should not, and will not judge, but I don’t think punishing the woman for having an abortion makes the situation any better.

Psychologically, if the woman doesn’t feel any sort of loss or qualms or doubts, then what can be said about her connection to that baby and the life it would have been born into?

It’s hubris of humanity that makes people believe an abortion stops a child from being born.

As if we as simple humans had that kind of power.

If He wants that child with that soul to be born, it will be born.

Maybe not to that particular mother, maybe not at that time in the mother’s life.

But it will be born.

Because before He “formed [us] in the womb [He] knew [us).”

It says so in the Bible.
