The words “grief” and “grievance” share a common etymological root in the Latin word “gravare,” meaning “to make heavy” or “to cause grief.”
The Latin term evolved into the Old French “grever,” which means “to afflict, burden, or oppress.”
From there, “grief” came to signify hardship or suffering, and “grievance” referred to a wrong or injustice.
Grievance culture is carrying unprocessed grief.
